Should you stop using AI?
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Futurist and speaker Graeme Codrington joined Breakfast with Martin Bester to answer important questions surrounding AI and how it will impact human beings.

Graeme Codrington, a global futurist and speaker, says he is sceptical about the usability of current AI but believes there is a place for it in society.
What is a Futurist?
First, being a futurist is not about predicting the future, but about identifying major disruptions that could change and impact the future.
Codrington says he likes to look at the opportunities within these disruptions.

He explains that people are often afraid of technology because we are programmed to look for threats. That's why "new tech" innovations are initially met with fear.

Should you use AI?
According to Codrington, AI, as it currently exists, is great for tasks it's designed for, such as text generation, fun graphics, and creating video and audio.
However, he adds that AI is "pretty rubbish at everything else," such as actual business intelligence and handling business exceptions.
When asked whether AI will take jobs, his answer is simple: yes.
But this doesn’t mean it's all bad it might also open the world to new opportunities.
Codrington also doesn’t believe that AI will take over the world or change everything.

He says true AI is a possibility, but probably only far in the future. Current AI, he argues, should actually be called "IA" – Intelligent Assist.
Current AI doesn't "know things," it simply generates responses based on information it has already been trained on. It also doesn't tell you when it doesn't know something.
To test the true power of AI, here's a cool challenge you can try with it:

In conclusion, Codrington says that you can use AI, and it can be absolutely helpful; it’s really just about how you use it that makes the difference.
If you use it as an assistant, you're using it correctly. If you take it at face value and believe everything it says, then you're using it incorrectly.
