These are the best-selling budget-friendly cars in SA

If you're looking for a reliable car that won't break the bank, we might have found what you're looking for.

Although many South Africans go about their daily commutes without the luxury of owning a car, for many, having their own vehicle remains a necessity.
Unfortunately, owning a vehicle is not a reality for millions of residents due to various economic struggles in the country.
And those who can afford a car are constantly looking for the most affordable options in the automotive market.

According to TopAuto, budget-friendly vehicles continue to dominate the South African car market.
With this in mind, the outlet ranked the top 10 best-selling cars under R300,000 in March 2025.

10. Suzuki Ertiga – R290,900
Units sold: 749

9. Mahindra XUV 3X0 – R254,999
Units sold: 774

8. Toyota Starlet Cross – R299,900
Units sold: 957

7. Suzuki Fronx – R298,900
Units sold: 1,052

6. Chery Tiggo 4 Pro – R269,900
Units sold: 1,102

5. Nissan Magnite – R224,900
Units sold: 1,223

4. Toyota Starlet – R258,000
Units sold: 1,279

3. Hyundai Grand i10 – R224,900

The Kia Sonet and Renault Kwid have reportedly dropped out of the top 10 list and were replaced by the Mahindra XUV 3X0 and the Suzuki Ertiga.

In total, the top 10 budget models accounted for 11,587 sales, or 23% of the 49,493 vehicles sold in South Africa last month.
