Two SA cafés make world's best coffee shops list
Which South African cafés do you think made the list of the World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops for 2025?
CoffeeFest Madrid in Spain is reportedly a weekend that many coffee lovers and connoisseurs mark on their calendars as one of the leading events in the global coffee industry.
It was here that the ranking for the World's 100 Best Coffee Shops for 2025 was also revealed.
Going up against coffee shops from all around the world, South Africa still managed to claim two spots on this prestigious list.

Espressolab in Cape Town ranked 11th in the world, while The Whippet in Johannesburg claimed the 89th spot.
According to IOL, the World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops for 2025 list was compiled using public votes, which accounted for 30% of the total score, while input from expert judges made up the remaining 70%.
The top five coffee shops in the world include:
Toby's Estate Coffee Roasters, Australia
Onyx Coffee Lab, USA
Gota Coffee Experts, Austria
Proud Mary Coffee, Australia
Tim Wendelboe, Norway
Espressolab can be found at Cape Town's Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock.
Many describe this as more than just a coffee shop, but rather an experience, as baristas treat each cup of coffee as a masterpiece.
They also reportedly view coffee making as a craft, using sustainable, single-origin beans sourced from Africa and South America, roasted in small batches.

The Whippet has become something of an institution in the vibrant and friendly suburb of Linden.
"Coffee is a sit-down moment, an intimate time together with those you love. We source only the best beans, roasted by an all-female roasting team, and then blended and made with passion and love by competition-ready baristas," its website says.
