It is no secret that South Africa has one of the highest crime rates in the world, with residents facing hijackings, theft, and much worse on a daily basis.

That’s why crime videos are no longer a shock to South Africans. However, a recent video showing just how bold criminals have become has left many residents outraged.

A video shared by TikToker, @kesiaclaireburdett (Kesia Claire Burdett), shows how a motorist narrowly escaped a hijacking in broad daylight while sitting in traffic.

"This just happened at Sandton Gate, JHB – 3 armed men tried to hijack cars in broad daylight. No shame. No fear. South Africa, we need to talk," she wrote on TikTok.

The video starts with what appears to be normal light congestion on a road in South Africa.

Three men can then be seen walking between the cars, approaching a black vehicle.

Moments later, the men surround the car on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides, and it quickly becomes apparent that this is a hijacking attempt.

At that moment, the motorist made a split-second decision to speed away.

Luckily for the driver, they had kept a safe following distance from the car in front of them.

A white car, which seemed to be next to the intended victim, also clearly realised what was happening and kept a safe distance from the vehicle.

This move enabled the victim in the black vehicle to escape using the left side of the road.
