Woolworths has launched an innovative first-of-its-kind food store.

Months after Woolworths teased the opening of a brand-new food shopping experience, the much-anticipated Woolworths Food Emporium is finally here.

The new opulent food store opened its doors at The Village Square in Durbanville, Cape Town.

The Woolworths Food Emporium focuses on innovation, modern design, and customer-led convenience.

Woolworths' new store is anything but a typical retail outlet.

The retail giant describes the Food Emporium as ushering in a new era for food retail, aiming to offer customers a best-in-class shopping experience.

"Every decision and every detail has been shaped by a single focus – to deliver a spectacular customer experience. From design to product selection, the store reflects our ambition to offer an inspiring, seamless and sustainable food shopping experience, one that’s proudly local and forward-thinking," says Sam Ngumeni, CEO of Woolworths Foods.

"The store is led by passionate Woolies staff and specialists, all of whom are committed to supporting and connecting with customers during every visit, making each trip to The Village Square not just satisfying, but joyful. We're constantly asking how we can better serve our customers, and our new store sets a strong benchmark for what this future looks like."

So what can you expect from the new Woolworths Food Emporium?

Cape {town} etc gave a breakdown of all the new luxury sections and features found in the new store.

  • Florist Counter: Now offering made-to-order bouquets, handpicked by an on-site expert and personally wrapped for a special touch.
  • Premium Food Counter – Our Kitchen: This revamped hub serves all your favourites with more variety and convenient grab-and-go options. The innovation kitchen features live cooking demos, with samples to try and ingredients available to buy on the spot.
  • Fishmonger: Enjoy an expanded range of responsibly sourced seafood. Fresh oysters are available, along with filleting and preparation services.
  • Butcher Counter: The new butcher section includes premium cuts like wagyu. An in-house butcher is on hand to provide expert cooking tips and advice.
  • Bakery  and Patisserie: A standout section offering elegant pastries that could rival Parisian cafés. Bespoke gift boxes and a fresh range of sourdough and artisanal loaves are also on offer.
  • Pantry Section: Organised by international cuisines such as Italian and Mexican, this area is designed to spark dinner inspiration and make shopping easier.
  • Confectionery Alcove: A vibrant space filled with Woolworths' sweet treats, featuring weekly-updated party ideas and giftable displays.
  • Wine Alcove: A curated collection of local and international wines, many exclusive to WCellar, brings indulgent moments to life.

The Food Emporium is also environmentally conscious, incorporating energy-efficient technologies, waste-reduction systems, and recyclable packaging across departments.
