John Kani is an iconic actor and playwright, SA is more than happy to claim.
He gained significant recognition in the 2016 film 'Captain America: Civil War' and the 2018 film 'Black Panther', in which he played King T'Chaka, the father of T'Challa.
In his youth, King T'Chaka became the superhero Black Panther; later, his son T'Challa (played by the late Chadwick Boseman) took over the responsibility.

When the movie was initially released, South Africans were not just proud to see one of our iconic actors feature in such a massive film, but were also surprised to hear Kani speak Xhosa!
It's safe to say that no one expected an African language to feature in this blockbuster, but viewers were pleasantly surprised.
In a recent interview, Kani sat down with Larry Madowo, a CNN International Correspondent and host of the African Voices Changemakers.

The interview focused on sharing more African stories globally.
Madowo asked Kani about the moment in the Marvel movie where he and Boseman spoke Xhosa.
Kani spoke highly of his co-star, who tragically passed away at the age of 43 due to cancer, and how he was surprised when he spoke Xhosa and Boseman understood what he had said and replied perfectly!
