International car brand making return to South Africa

South Africa might soon welcome back a subsidiary of India’s largest automotive company.

From driver's licence issues to car brands closing shop, the SA automotive industry and everything surrounding it have made all sorts of headlines in 2025.

Recently, another popular car brand announced that it would be returning to South Africa.
While Tata's commercial, truck-focused division, Tata International South Africa, has been in the country since the early 1990s, the Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) subsidiary exited the market in 2019.

Now they're ready to make a comeback!
According to BusinessTech, the company is planning a relaunch in the local market, introducing SUVs, hatchbacks, and crossovers as of August 2025.

All Tata Motors passenger vehicles currently hold a four or five-star rating from the Global and Bharat New Car Assessment Programmes (GNCAP and BNCAP).
The company has said that its SA tange will also feature high safety ratings, with models designed to balance practicality, affordability and modern features.

Khandelwal said that the company's return to South Africa is not only driven by car sales but that their focus is also on contributing to the local economy through job creation in sales, parts distribution, servicing, and technical training for workers.
TMPV have unveiled their new South African range, which currently features four models:
- Tata Harrier (SUV)
- Tata Curvv (Crossover Coupe)
- Tata Punch (Compact SUV)
- Tata Tiago (Hatchback)
