Pokémon is one of the most iconic and popular media franchises the world has ever seen.

From its nostalgic animated series to its addictive interactive game, Pokémon Go, it burst onto the scene on 27 February 1996 and has shown no signs of going anywhere anytime soon.

While many people might collect rare Pokémon cards or plushies of their favourite characters, some want to collect truly bizarre and unique items.

Not too long ago, a Chrizard-shaped Flamin’ Hot Cheeto sold at auction for nearly $88,000 (R1,575,459), but the Pokémon-food-craze is not over.

There's a new Cheeto in town, and it's 'Pikacheeto'!

Pikachu is by far one of the series' most popular characters, so this auction has caught the attention of many collectors.

The five centimetre long Cheeto is of the original cheesy variety, unlike the Chrizard Hot Cheeto, and was sold on the auction site Goldin.

The starting bid was $500 (R8,9510) and had gone up to $3,250 (R58,184)!

'Pikacheeto' has been mounted on a card base modelled after the Pikachu Base Set 2 card. This lists 'Pikachu's' special attacks, damage output, weaknesses, and more.

Although a fan favourite, this Pokémon-snack isn't expected to sell for as much as the 'Cheetozard'.

According to Go Nintendo, the anonymous collector who sold the previous Cheeto is also the seller of the Pikachu-shaped treat.

They also share that the Cheeto collector started the hobby in the mid-1990s when his brother found a Cheeto that resembled a 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle'.

Since then, he has enjoyed hunting down uniquely shaped chips.
