The V&A Waterfront is also known for being a luxurious area where you can shop until you drop.

Now, joint owners Growthpoint Properties and the PIC are pumping more money into a Cape Town leisure development.

They have released renders of a new Quay 7 hotel that will be built in the V&A Waterfront precinct.

The building is currently under development, and according to Moneyweb, this project makes it one of the most expensive hotels built since the 1900s.

Growthpoint Properties has confirmed the hotel's current timeframe, although they have been very secretive about sharing full details on the development and which international brand will operate the hotel.

Moneyweb first reported in 2024 that it could be the Edition Hotel, "part of US-based hotels and leisure giant Marriott International’s new “super luxury” or 6/7 star ‘designer lifestyle’ offering".

V&A Waterfront CEO David Green and other officials have said they cannot comment at this stage of the development.

The company has confirmed that the cost is around R1-billion.

The hotel is set to have 142 keys and six serviced apartments, and international architects are working on a unique design incorporating a Scandinavian look.

Since the development is set for fewer than 150 keys and apartments, this highlights that it is a luxury project.
