Own a house in France for R21

If you are ready to experience some joie de vivre, this town has the right amount of je ne sais quoi.

If you have always dreamed about owning property abroad, this might be an excellent investment opportunity.

Over the last few years, Italian towns have been making headlines for offering homes for as little as one euro (R21) to boost the population in smaller towns, encourage people to stay in these towns and keep them from falling into complete disrepair.
Now, other countries are taking notes and implementing the same strategies.

Ambert, located in southeast France, is adopting this initiative to stop its dwindling 6,500 population from shrinking further.

This forms part of a five-year plan to attract new residents and rejuvenate local life, as one area of the town has reached a vacancy rate of 60%.

This prompted authorities to put two empty homes on the market for only one euro each.
The broader project is showing signs of success. Due to growing enrollment, the Ambert school has added a new class.
As with the other schemes, this comes with obvious terms and conditions.

The initial cost is a bargain, but buyers are expected to invest significantly in renovations and meet strict requirements if they want the keys.
Second-home buyers are prohibited from buying into the scheme.
The Local reports that buyers must live in the house for three years once it's habitable.

If they choose not to, they risk financial penalties, including the repayment of government grants for the home's refurbishment.
And these homes do need a lot of work.

Potential buyers have also been asked to provide a written plan outlining the extent of the work and its completion time.
