VIDEO: Cape Town man wins first-ever sperm race

The world's smallest racetrack recently hosted the first-ever sperm race.

When you think you've seen everything, the world surprises you with something like this.

Men are now taking part in sperm races.

According to the organisation behind this new 'sport', "sperm racing isn't just a joke. It's not just some viral idea for the internet to laugh at. It's something much bigger."

They report that male fertility is declining, with the average sperm count in 1973 being 101 million per millilitre of semen, compared to 49 million in 2018.

They plan to encourage healthier lifestyles for men by hosting this one-of-a-kind race.

The first race saw Tristan Milker (20) from the Mother City go head-to-head with Los Angeles-based student Asher Proeger (19), and Milker came out on top.

Tristan received $10 000 (about R180 000) in prize money and unique bragging rights.

The event was held in a Hollywood movie and TV studio, and the race through the 20-cm-long microscopic racetrack was broadcast to 400 audience members.

Whether or not Tristan will return to the sperm racing track to defend his title is unclear.
