Driving in a different country or town can be pretty stressful.

You also don't know the roads, and things can get quite confusing.
You'll undoubtedly depend on a GPS to lead you in the right direction.
Even then, you might end up on a road with the most potholes or one that passes through a sketchy area.
An Italian driver recently ended up in a much trickier situation.

The Spanish Steps in Rome were built between 1723 and 1726, and the steps lead from the Piazza di Spagna to the French monastery church Trinita dei Monti.
It is an iconic landmark that thousands of tourists visit annually and is an integral part of Rome's traditions and celebrations.
You have also most likely seen the steps as a backdrop in a few movies.

However, in the early morning of 17 June, an 80-year-old man accidentally took a wrong turn and went down the steps in his car!
The Spanish Steps are not meant to be driven up or down, so the man soon found himself in a precarious situation.

The moment was captured on video by bystanders and has gone viral.

According to The Guardian, Italian police confirmed that the man tested negative for alcohol, although they have not shared any more details.

The Vigili del Fuoco (Italian fire department) posted a picture of the car being removed from the steps on X.
The translated post reads: "From 4:30 this morning, #firefighters intervention in #Rome for a car that ended up on the Spanish Steps. The delicate recovery operations with the crane are underway [#17June 7:45]"

While this might have been an accident, many daredevils have wanted to race down the steps.
In 2022, a Saudi man was charged with aggravated damage to cultural heritage after he was seen driving a rented Maserati down the steps.
