In 2025, Kendrick Lamar commanded one of the world's most high-profile stages as the Super Bowl's halftime headliner, yet another feather in the cap of the rap laureate who has ascended to new heights of pop stardom.

Lamar performed a string of his classics while toying with his audience, who had one major question: would he perform 'Not Like Us,' the searing diss track that served as the knockout blow in his eyebrow-raising rap battle with Drake?

In a word? Yes.

What surprised most viewers was former Grand Slam champion Serena Williams dancing along while Lamar dragged Drake in front of millions.

This made the rumour mill and social media spin as people theorised why she appeared.

Williams and Drake were rumoured to have dated on and off from 2010 to 2016. But while dancing the "Crip Walk", a dance move created in Compton in the 1970s, during the halftime show, it was clear whose side she was on.

Time magazine has revealed its list of the most influential people, including entertainers, sports stars, and world leaders.

Williams is this edition's cover star, and in her interview, she spoke about her various endeavours outside of tennis, now that she is retired.

The publication also referenced Williams's iconic Crip Walk performance at the Super Bowl, highlighting how tough the decision was for her.

According to Time, Williams ultimately chose to go through with it because the moment was bigger than just her – she wanted to proudly represent her hometown.

She also had three tequila shots before her performance and nailed it.

However, there was a lot of fallout after the performance, mainly aimed at Lamar, but shots were fired in Williams's direction as well.

When asked about the dance and if she was "throwing shade" towards Drake, the tennis superstar answered:

Hopefully, the rumours will die down and Drake will never have to think about that halftime show again.

But that's doubtful.
