Good Morning Angels Festive: A special Christmas for orphans from Brakpan

Making Christmas real and special for 18 Orphans from Brakpan with Roman's Pizza!

Good Morning Angels Festive
Jacaranda FM

BACKGROUND: The Loved Ones of Christ is an independent care organisation who take care of 160 elderly people as well as 18 orphaned children in Brakpan and Hartebeespoort. The staff at the organisation not only look after the elderly, but they are also often the only “family” for forgotten members of society. The 18 children, who live in Brakpan are aged from birth to 18-years old. They do not have any other family to rely on. For these old and young people, Christmas is a burden rather than a pleasure, as for the holiday destinations, gifts and special meals are not on the cards.

The staff at the Loved Ones of Christ do whatever they can, to bring some festive cheer to these special residents and they’ve planned an outing for the 18 children and some of the elderly people, who are well enough to take a day-trip. They’ve made some arrangements, but have asked Good Morning Angels to assist with transport.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:

Good morning “Angels",

Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Robert and I represent a registered non-profit organisation in Saartjies Nek, Hartbeespoort called 'The Loved Ones of God.' We look after and care for around 160 old age pensioners and disability pensioners and we have 18 children in our full time care too. We were established in Brakpan in 2001 and it's for our 18 children that I'm  sending this mail for your kind consideration please "Angels".

As we wind down to another Christmas after an extremely difficult year in which we have only just managed to keep our heads above water, we have taken on another very worthwhile project. With Christmas being a special time for children we have decided to go all out and to give our 18 children a really special treat that is both educational and highly entertaining. During the year, besides going to school, they are basically just at home and don't go out much, so this is going to be both mind blowing and something they will never forget.

What we hope to achieve is this: on Monday the 9th of December a 32 seater bus will collect our 18 children with caregivers and a few of our old age pensioners and transport them to Hartbeespoort Predator Park where they will see everything from lions, tigers, cheetah and a lot more. Next, we will go 4km down the road to the Hartbeespoort Snake and Animal Park where they will see a variety of reptiles, animals and even a seal show.  Our last stop will be the Hartbeespoort Aquarium, which is the only fresh water aquarium in our country where they will see most of the indigenous fish that are in the dam, as well as elsewhere in South Africa.

Everyone will then be treated to pizza and cool drink at our branch in Saartjies Nek, Hartbeespport and then return to Brakpan. What a day it will be and the really good thing is that while enjoying themselves immensely they are being educated. The 3 tourist attractions they will be visiting have already been sponsored by the owners of the parks and aquarium.

Our request today for your kind consideration is to please help us by sponsoring the bus from Brakpan to Hartbeespoort and back. I have been given quotations in the region of R5000-00 and that is a monumental amount in our current economic climate and any assistance would really be a true blessing.

Thank you both for the time you took in reading this and for your consideration and all the best to yourself and your loved one's over the festive season.

With gratitude,

Robert Brotton
