Are you depressed? Signs you may be overlooking
Updated | By Poelano Malema

According to The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG), 60% of the people who commit suicide in South Africa are depressed.
This is a cause for concern, especially because research has shown that a large number of people do not even know that they are depressed.
Depression is an illness and affects your mood, mind, body, and behaviour.
According to SADAG, 20% of the population will develop this illness, but only one third of those people get will help.
Below are some of the symptoms of depression that you may be overlooking:
- Constant feeling of sadness
- Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
- Feeling negative and hopeless
- Thoughts of suicide
- Constant headaches, chronic pain, and digestive disorders
- Insomnia, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping.
Treatment:
Depression can be treated, and almost all of the people who seek treatment are helped.
Doctors may prescribe antidepressants, and you can even make lifestyle changes that can help you come out of depression.
Choose to exercise. Exercise releases feel-good brain chemicals which can help you not feel depressed.
Instead of locking yourself in the house, go out more and get social support.
Sometimes a problem shared can be a problem solved.
Also, choose to eat right. The right diet is good for mental health.
