A Johannesburg taxi driver is being lauded after he jumped into action to prevent a hijacking from taking place.

Drama erupted in the Johannesburg CBD after hijacked tried their luck on a driver of a ride-hailing service.
The incident took place at the corners of Troye and Albertina Sisulu streets on Monday.
The taxi driver fired several shots at the hijackers which resulted in the motorist crashing into the taxi.
The motorists, in a white Toyota Corolla, was shot in the leg.

He was also robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and a cell phone.
The robbers managed to escape unharmed.
The taxi driver is being dubbed a hero for his courage.
