Rian van Heerden turns on his Scenic Drive mic at Jacaranda FM for the last time
After a decade of intriguing conversations, indelible wit, and "take-me-with-a-pinch-of-salt-candor," Jacaranda FM’s Scenic Drive host - Rian van Heerden turns on his mic for the last
time on 30 June 2022.
“Our decision to close the chapter of Rian’s drive time show was made with careful consideration and consultation. The mutual decision will allow space to develop the next generation of Drive Time talent at Jacaranda FM and give Rian more latitude to pursue his business projects” said Hennie Myburgh, Jacaranda FM Programme Manager.
Rian van Heerden has captured the zeitgeist of South African culture in almost every way, shape, and form. From his ‘expect the unexpected’ Scenic Drive show on Jacaranda FM to his wildly successful Showmax show – 'Sex in Afrikaans,' Rian has entertained Mzansi and become a well-respected and beloved celebrity amongst media giants in South Africa.
“We are immensely proud of Rian’s contribution to the success of the station,” said Myburgh. “Rian ends his tenure on a high note after winning the South African Radio Award for Best Drive Show on a commercial station last year. We’ve seen his new restaurant and many TV shows amass incredible success and will keep supporting his endeavors in any way we can,” adds Myburgh.
Listeners can continue being entertained on Mzansi’s favorite radio station where the new Drive Time show will be announced in due course.
“When I returned to Jacaranda FM, I never imagined hosting this show for another five years, it’s been a gift to share so much with Mzansi over the airwaves. Radio is and will always remain one of our greatest mediums for communication – of course, I will miss it. To our listeners, Dankie! Thank you for tuning in, laughing, sharing, debating, agreeing, and disagreeing with me over the years. I’ll miss those quintessentially South African Straatbraai’s and my team, but I’m very excited to channel more time and focus into my existing and new projects” adds Van Heerden.
