Trevor Noah has SA in stitches with fake Xhosa translation at the Oscars
Updated | By Jacaranda FM
South African comedian, Trevor Noah gave Hollywood a taste of our country when he presented one of the Best Picture nominees at the Oscars on Sunday.

Before announcing the nominees for Best Picture, Trevor Noah had the opportunity to say a few words - or in this case, a joke.
He started by saying, "Growing up as a young boy in Wakanda, I would see T'Challa flying over our village, and he would remind me of a great Xhosa phrase. He said, "abelungu abazi ubu ndiyaxoka" - which he joked means, "In times like these, we are stronger when we fight togerther than when we try to fight apart."
However, that is not the actual meaning of the Xhosa phrase. The real translation is, "White people don't know I'm lying."

After saying the Xhosa phrase, no one in the audience recognized that Noah was not speaking the truth.
Several South Africans who were watching the awards got the joke and quickly took it to social media.
