Determined midwife uses inflatable swan to reach woman in labour
Updated | By Poelano Malema

Cathy Allen Rude (63) was determined to do all she could to deliver a baby.
Rude was scheduled to deliver a baby on Monday, but unfortunately, due to floods in Houston, which have been going on since Sunday, she found herself stranded.
"My client had a friend in my neighborhood with a kayak and we were going to try that but she was unable to reach them so came to the end of my street," she told reporters.
"She then saw my neighbor Celeste floating on her inflatable swan and yelled out to her, ‘how about giving a midwife a ride on your swan to come deliver my baby," Rude added.
Fortunately for her, the neighbour agreed, and Rude managed to carry herself and her birthing equipment to the Katy Birth Center just on time.
She managed to deliver a healthy 4kg baby boy.
"Midwives will do anything to get to a birth! Riding a swan to get off my flooded street and make it to the birth center! Thanks,Celeste! You gave me a great ride!" she wrote on Facebook.
Way to go, Cathy!
