Can humans survive without food? Breatharians believe that a person can give up food and water altogether and live purely off "living on light" or "living on air." Ellen Greve is credited with starting today's Breatharian movement.

Her Prana Program (living off air) advises followers to convert to Breatharianism gradually: Become a vegetarian; become a vegan; move to raw foods, then fruits, then liquids and finally prana. You replace physical food with air and light as well as metaphysical nourishment.

A Breatharian mom and dad of two have barely eaten for nine years as they live off “the universe’s energy.”

Akahi and Camila Castello believe that food and water aren’t necessary and humans can be sustained solely by the energy of the universe.

The couple — who have a five-year-old son and two-year-old daughter together — will only eat three or four times a week, often surviving on a piece of fruit or some vegetable broth.

They say their “food-free lifestyle” has improved their health and emotional well-being.

Camila says even though she is pregnant, she has never had any cravings or felt any desire to eat food. So those eating for two cravings are just a myth, ladies!

While the couple practise, they have not yet introduced this way of life to their children. Akahi says: "We would never try to change them and we let them eat whatever they want — whether that be juices, vegetables, pizza or ice-cream!It would be unfair to impose Breatharianism upon our children now but maybe as they grow, they will get deeper into the practices."
