Family jokes around calling their cat a 'lizard hunter'

While it may seem funny to watch your pet play a game of cat and lizard, it is not at all safe for your pet to eat lizards.

Pets have a habit of dragging their most "precious" treasures into the home.

Sometimes it's a toy, other times it's slightly more alive. Cats, especially, take pride in showing off their hunting skills — usually with a mouse or in this family's case, a lizard

Cats may seem playful and cute, but this video shared on social media shows just how quick-footed cats can be.

In the video, a man gently lifts his cat onto a pillow, giving it the perfect boost to catch a lurking lizard perched high on the living room wall.

As the tag team move closer towards the unsuspecting critter, the cat intently focuses on the lizard and doesn't move a paw. Not until it's ready to pounce.

Hillspet.com says, "Some dog breeds have higher prey drives than others, but given the chance, any dog might happily gobble down a small lizard or frog.

Unlike eating a small rodent, ingesting reptiles carries the risk of toxicity. Some toads and lizards secrete poison through their skin to help protect them from predators, while others have venomous bites."

In addition, lizards are known to carry parasites called liver flukes. If the parasites are lodged in the cat's bile duct, they may become dangerous and even fatal.

The best advice might be not to encourage your cats or dogs to eat lizards, because it may cause them harm.
