How important is safety when visiting your local funfair?
Updated | By Jacaranda FM/Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
When you think of funfairs, we're sure you're taken back to childhood memories filled with joy, laughter, and endless fun.

Funfairs are a whirlwind of excitement – thrilling rides, the sweet scent of candy floss, and the sound of laughter filling the air.
For those who experienced the magic of a funfair as a child, it’s a treasure trove of happy memories.
But as an adult, the excitement might feel a little different. You start noticing things that never crossed your mind as a child – like the safety standards of the rides and attractions.
TikTok user Niecie, recently shared a video that quickly caught many people's attention. In the clip, she filmed a ride at her local funfair that didn’t look entirely stable.
The ride, commonly known as a gravity machine, was operating with riders on board.
But as Niecie zoomed in, she noticed something alarming – it was propped up off the ground with bricks.
Not exactly a reassuring sight when it comes to safety standards.
Niecie wrote, "Why I don't go on rides in South Africa."
The post sparked plenty of discussion in the comments.
One user made an interesting point, saying, "Yet the only accidents we've heard about happen overseas on machines designed by the so-called 'best' engineers in the world."
