Mzansi raise their eyebrows at the high cost of Pringles

Has Pringles become a snack for the privileged, or is it just a case of preference?

Consider yourself lucky if you have not complained about the food price hikes. Because for most South Africans, it has been something of an ordeal.

Grocery shopping can be compared to writing an essay; your first draft is never what you end up with. You must keep cutting things off your list because your budget no longer matches the cost.

The first thing that gets left off your list is snacks. And if you're a fan of Pringles, you've probably been second-guessing buying your favourite snack because of the price.

A content creator recently vented about the price of Pringles and questioned when South Africa introduced the 'Pringles tax'.

He was outraged by the R91.00 price tag on a 165g tin of Pringles and even said that Pringles had become a "rich person's food." While he ranted and raved about the high price of Pringles, people in the comments didn't all agree with him.

Some shared how they got their Pringles from a different retailer that sells it for R70.00, others shared how they have downgraded to the local version of Pringles.

One person wrote, "Sorry, man, Pringle is my favourite, so I think I bought too many this year."

"I'd rather stand in the home affairs line than buy Pringles for that much."

"I was talking to my sister out of spending R60 on Pringles and just buying the store brand, legit 4 hours ago."

"Bro, I used to buy these like crazy in high school. Every time I pass the aisle, my heart cracks."
