Nightmare at the museum as tourist breaks Van Gogh chair

The cardinal rule when visiting museums is not to touch anything...This couple didn't get the memo after visiting the Palazzo Maffei Museum in Verona, Italy.

When people think about Vincent Van Gogh, they usually think of his famous paintings, such as 'The Starry Night' and 'The Bedroom'. He is also known for cutting a portion of his ear off during a mental breakdown.

It seems two tourists managed to bring their level of chaos to a piece of art dedicated to Van Gogh, housed in the Palazzo Maffei in Verona, Italy.

The tourists posing for photos almost wrecked the work of art, and what's worse is that they fled the museum without informing anyone of their clumsiness.

The Guardian reported, "Video footage released by Palazzo Maffei in Verona showed the hapless pair photographing each other pretending to sit on a crystal-covered chair made by the artist Nicola Bolla – described by the museum as an 'extremely fragile' work."

"The sculpture is, of course, named after the Dutch Post-Impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890), and is specifically inspired by his masterfully executed still life of the humble chair with woven reed seat that furnished his famous “Yellow House” in Arles, France."

The museum contacted the Italian police after they discovered the damage. The incident occurred four weeks ago, and the chair has since been repaired. They have asked tourists to respect the art when visiting.

The chair, which is covered with Swarovski crystals, is a masterpiece in honour of Van Gogh and should be respected.

We cannot imagine the legal ramifications that the couple will face if they are caught, but we imagine the police are not sitting on the case...
