Here are some useful ways to use plastic bottles that are not only practical but also good for the environment.

Mandela Day is around the corner, and if you haven't yet decided how you are going to spend your 67 minutes, you should check out some fun ideas here.
One way we can all practice the spirit of paying it forward is to lead more sustainable lifestyles. That includes aiming to move away from using plastic. A great way of reducing your plastic usage is by upcycling plastic in practical and valuable ways.
If you find a purpose for plastic, you reduce the amount in our oceans, affecting marine life.
Here are some ingenious ways of using plastic bottles in your home that help with home organisation.
Please note that all of these hacks are included in the TikTok video at the end of this article.
1. Transform bottle caps
Burn a hole in a bottle cap and use the bottle as a salad dressing or sauce dispenser. You could even add your pancake batter to the bottle to make fun designs when making your pancakes.
You could also use the bottle caps to create a fun art piece that could be used to educate kids at school about recycling.
2. Bottle lightbulb replacer
By cutting a plastic soda bottle in half and securing it on a lengthy wooden stick, you can create a tool for changing light bulbs. This can help you remove and replace old light bulbs with new ones.
3. Drain catcher
If you have leftover food that has gone off and want to separate the chunky bits from the liquid without clogging up the drain, you can use the bottom half of a large soda bottle.
Make holes at the bottom and secure it to the tap faucet with a string. This can capture all the food scraps without clogging your drain.
4. Storage bins
You can cut a bottle in half and use it inside your fridge door as a storage bin. This can neatly and functionally store sachet sauces or smaller items.
5. Trash bag storage
Cut a plastic bottle in half lengthwise and attach it to the inside of your trash cupboard. The cylindrical space can be used to store your garbage bags.
6. Storage containers
Use wide-mouthed plastic bottles to store your grains. Not only does this help keep your grains fresh and insect-free, but it also looks better and helps you keep track of your grains organised.
