Checkers shopper gets her shopping for free

There's no denying that many South African families are experiencing hard times and are trying to make ends meet. The rising costs of food and groceries have left many people playing tic-tac-toe on what they need the most from the grocery list. 

We recently saw a video of a mother struggling to stretch R120 to buy a meal for her daughter and herself. 

A video showing the positive side of shopping specials showed one KwaZulu-Natal shopper getting her groceries for free. Queen Mqilingiwa, a call centre agent and digital content creator, shared a video from 25 July after she found out that she was getting her shopping for free.

Mqilingwa was shopping at Checkers Gateway, Umhlanga, and saw a special on a popular men's lotion. Instead of paying R79.00 for one, customers who bought two and swiped their Checkers Xtra Savings card would pay R99.00. 

She took advantage of the special and shopped for other toiletries and groceries while out. 

When she got to the till, she was overcome with joy and gratitude when the cashier laughed and told her she didn't need to pay anything. Her balance went to zero, which meant that after she swiped her card, she was the lucky customer who got their shopping for free. 

It was nice to see how retailers are doing their best to give back to customers somehow.
