Gorilla puffs a cigarette that it found inside zoo pen
The cigarette was allegedly thrown into the gorilla's enclosure, which means it's possible that zoo visitors acted irresponsibly.
There are some things we come across on the internet that we wish we could unsee.
While social media gives us a window into the world, it also exposes us to moments that are unsettling and heartbreaking, especially when it comes to how people behave around animals.
One such video showed a gorilla picking up a lit cigarette from its zoo enclosure and smoking it like a human. While some people found it amusing, many were rightfully alarmed.
Smoking is hardly a habit to be proud of. Despite being popularised by both mainstream and digital media as "cool", it has a host of health risks that don't seem that cool when your body bears the brunt.
The gorilla picks up the cigarette and puffs on it with great skill,
as if it had smoked before. It even disposed of the cigarette properly
after finishing it.
Zoo authorities have said they are aware of the incident and are investigating further. They will pay more attention to educating visitors about the dangers of throwing harmful objects into the animals' enclosures.
The video raised concerns about the zoo animals' safety and the zoo management's efforts in caring for the animals' mental and physical state of health.
