A social media video has shocked parents, now wondering if they are adequately preparing their children to act quickly during stressful situations.

As a parent, have you asked yourself: "What am I doing to teach my child how to respond in an emergency?

Our roles as parents aren't just to nurture, care for, and protect our kids. Our role is to prepare them for the big world of possibilities. We should encourage them to think outside their fears, act smart, and adopt a quick-thinking attitude when required.

While it may not always be easy to do this, if we fail to prepare them for some of life's challenges, we leave them vulnerable in a world that sometimes has no mercy.

A social media video shows a toddler desperately trying to wake her father up. It appears the father was experiencing a low blood sugar spell. Low blood sugar is known as hypoglycemia. Cleveland Clinic explains, "Hypoglycemia happens when the sugar (glucose) level in your blood drops below the range that’s healthy for you."

Hypoglycemia is more common in people with Type 1 diabetes. It can be treated by drinking something sugary or eating something with carbohydrates, which helps push up the body's glucose. Medication is required for severe cases of hypoglycemia.

In the video, the child fails to wake her father up and decides to look for his medication. She finds the meds and administers them to her father, who eventually wakes up.

Some have said this video is scripted, but it gives parents a big wake-up call. We must be doing more to prepare our kids (from a young age) for real-life emergencies, regardless of their nature or cause.
