The kitchen energy saving tip that saves you time and money
Updated | By The Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp / Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
This simple hack can help you save energy and time in the kitchen.

The future of energy saving is just as reliant on usage habits as it is on technology development.
Sure, adopting new technologies can save money and help the environment, but what about changing how you do things?
Lifestyle changes and practices can also play a role in shifting the energy narrative. For instance, when load shedding was first introduced, marketing efforts from the government focused on getting citizens to use electricity sparingly.
Renewable energy specialist DJ Wes Reddy often shares fascinating insight into how we use energy. He highlights things we can do differently to save energy, time, and money.
In a recent video, he shared that studies have shown up to 30% of heat is lost when you cook without a lid on your pot. Thus, making the stove work harder and using more energy while cooking your food.
This means it will take 25% longer to cook with the lid off than it might take with the lid on the pot.
