Talk about what's next in fashion...We doubt the creators of the Checkers Sixty60 shopping bags ever thought their bags would make the runway.

Checkers Sixty60 has become more than a household name. The brand has expanded into a cultural phenomenon, with people hosting Checkers Sixty60 birthday parties and kids idolising Sixty60 drivers

The Checkers Sixty60 bags made its fashion debut on the runway of the Meneer en Mejuffrou Boland modelling competition at Boland Landbouskool.

When 17-year-old Beate van Wyk told her boyfriend she had her heart set on entering the modelling competition, the couple worked together to make it happen. Her boyfriend, Jacques Brand, approached his mother, Hesmari van Deventer, who brought their vision to life.

Shoprite Holdings said, "Hesmari van Deventer (42), a mom from Montagu, transformed discarded Sixty60 and Checkers plastic shopping bags into dazzling, award-winning outfits – and a matching bouquet – in just four days."

Her creations and the couple's vibrant energy on the runway won them Meneer en Mejuffrou Kreatief (Mr and Miss Creative) in the themed event category 'From Trash'.
