Mom finds a solution to the horrid spam calls

Who said babies can't help their parents out of a bind?

We recently heard that spam callers use mobile numbers when making cold calls. This is done to deceive the caller into answering.

Jacaranda FM recently reported that the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) is currently investigating this tactic, highlighting that it is illegal for call centres operating out of fixed premises to use mobile numbers.

Of course, as consumers, we are all on the same page when receiving these spam calls. They do have the worst timing.

A mother who was fed up with spam calls devised a solution to handle them. While it does seem extreme for the person on the other side of the call, considering they are just doing their job, we can understand how this might feel like the only way out when you encounter a spammer who won't take 'I'm not interested' as an answer.

In a video shared on Instagram, a mother hands her phone to her baby.

The baby, Orearabile Dithapelo, has her own Instagram page managed by her mother, Mxhlogonolo Mahasha. In the video, Mahasha answers the call and then hands the phone to her little one, who is more than happy to take the call for her.

It can be pretty infuriating to deal with a spam call when you are busy, but some people answer because of the number on their screen. In this case, it was a landline number, and as a parent, you wouldn't want to miss an important call.

People were highly amused by the video and shared their comments.

One mother said, "Just looked at my 2-month-old baby and smiled. It's about to go down."

Another person shared their perspective, coming from the consultant's point of view.

"Eish, sometimes it's someone's genuine job, that only pays them on commissions... Used to do surveys... That was an hour long... I understand there's no time for that, but I would get paid if someone doesn't want to do the survey... That time you went to work daily, praying you would get a response. As a graduate, that is very humbling. I'm not saying agree with whatever is being sold but let's be nice."
