As we celebrate a day that comes with sadness and triumph, we look at the universal language of gratitude.

National Youth Day reminds us of young people's role in the fight against apartheid and pushes us to embrace all that is good.

"Every 16 June, as we mark National Youth Day, we not only remember the sacrifices and courage of those young people but also renew our commitment to equipping today’s youth for a vibrant future," reports the SA News government website.

The theme for Youth Month this year is, “Skills for the changing world—Empowering youth for meaningful economic participation.” While this theme is focused on preparing our youth for an ever-evolving global economy, it reminds us how impressionable our youth are.

Making an effort to lead by example is what will set us apart in achieving our vision.

A video that reminded us to lead by example shows a man feeding a baby elephant water. People are often warned not to interact with elephants out of fear, especially baby elephants.

No one wants to be on the receiving end of an angry mama elephant. But this case was different; the baby elephant raced to the man holding a hose flowing with water.

The video breathes life into showing love without words. Feeding into the idea of 'actions speak louder than words'.

It's like the picture of Mbuyisa Makhubo holding Hector Pieterson after being shot at the Soweto uprising in 1976. That image spoke volumes without saying a word. A picture that was essentially responsible for putting an end to apartheid.

It is a small but impactful contribution to the idea of an image speaking volumes.
