The things SA parents struggle with, homework edition
Updated | By The Workzone with Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp/Udesha Moodley-Judhoo
Kids are the most entertaining; we must step back to appreciate it.

Parents who have been in the game for a while might warn new parents to be prepared for anything and everything. There's the sentimental side, where time flies and in a blink of an eye your bubble of joy is suddenly all grown up.
Then there's the side that no one warns you about.
Homework, play dates, and managing your child's social calendar. These are just a few things you might have to navigate, starting with the most pressing: preparing yourself for homework.
It's a daunting task that can leave parent and child feeling anxious.
Like this mother, whose video shows her attempting to do Grade 1 homework with her child resonated with many South African parents and teachers.
While the video didn't earn her any credit as a homework guru, many parents agreed that helping your kids with homework is no easy feat.

Experts have spoken extensively about the topic, sharing their insights into why homework overwhelms kids, but what about parents?
The comforting part of it all is that you are not alone; parents and teachers alike commented sharing their thoughts.
- "Parenting grade 1 is an extreme sport. I feel you."
- "I'm teaching these grade 1s...It takes one to do this to confuse the whole class."
- "That innocent 'mmm'. But I could never be a teacher."
- "Grade 1 is the pits. We're in this together."
- "That kid knows what they were doing. You cannot convince me otherwise."
- "Write with a thing. My patience will never have patience."
- "Most days feel like a round in Hunger Games for me."
