But now more than ever, we are seeing a small change in society, with plus-size models, thick women on magazine covers, and now even larger women in adverts.

The latest advert of retailer JCPenney’s “Here I Am” plus-size line has a very clear message that size isn’t an indicator of a person’s worth. The advert features singer Mary Lambert, Project Runway winner Ashley Nell Tipton, blogger and designer Gabi Fresh, and author Jes Baker. From being told they cannot follow their dreams to being called a hippo, the women share their personal painful struggles about being thick girls.

The advert then ends with them saying: "Fat girls can do whatever they want... Fat girls can run, fat girls can dance, fat girls can have amazing jobs. We can walk runways. We can be on the covers of magazines. Wear stripes. Bright colors. I am beautiful; I am sexy. There's no ignoring this when it walks in the door. My size isn't an indicator of my worth."
