There are those truly rare occasions when a newer, slightly altered version is better than the original. This is particularly true in music.

There are songs you truly love and appreciate, but sometimes another artist will take it on and make the song their own. Sometimes the new version will evoke new feelings that the original never did, or maybe the majesty in the way the cover artist performs the song will completely transform it and give it new meaning.

Following opera singer Kevin Leo’s cover version of Jack Parow’s “Skop Skoppity Skop” on The Complimentary Breakfast on Tuesday morning, we decided to scour the internet for some of the most popular cover versions out there. Here’s what we found:

Whitney Houston – “I Will Always Love You” (Originally by Dolly Parton) Beyonce – If I Were A Boy (Originally by BC Jean)
Joan Jett and The Blackhearts – I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll (Originally by Arrows) The Pussycat Dolls – Don’t Cha (Originally by Tori Alamaze)
