Updated | By The Workzone with Barney Simon
A 50-year-old man in the city of Bageshwar was bitten while trying to help an injured leopard.
Officials in the Indian city of Bageshwar spotted a leopard stuck in a river, apparently unable to move because it was paralysed in its lower body. Efforts to rescue the leopard included one man, identified as 50-year-old Jagdish Singh, approaching the leopard with a rope.
As Singh attempted to tie the rope around the leopard's legs in order to be able to pull it to higher ground, the animal retaliated.
The leopard lashed out and clawed Singh's arms and legs. Bystanders tried to rescue Singh from the animal's clutches by hitting the leopard with sticks.
Eventually Singh is freed and was later taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The leopard was later sedated before being transported to a veterinary hospital for examination.
