Monkeys filmed mourning the death of a robot monkey
Updated | By Poelano Malema
A group of monkeys were filmed mourning the passing of their baby ‘monkey’.
The sad video, filmed by BBC’s Spy in the Wild, shows distraught monkeys grieving the death of a robot monkey who was ‘killed’ during filming. However, what the monkeys did not know was that their baby monkey was a robot monkey who was placed by the filmmakers to observe the monkeys’ habit of sharing babysitting duties. How Clever!
The video starts off by showing other monkeys trying to bond with the baby monkey and one older monkey even trying to get her off the tree in order to babysit her. But accidentally, the big monkey drops the baby, who then ‘dies’. What follows next is an incredible scene of monkeys gathering around the dead monkey as a symbol of mourning.
"We felt this calm and silence coming over them. All the noise they were making at the beginning just went completely silent and then they hugged each other," Matthew Gordon, who works as the series producer, told Express.
