"Today it feels good to be an African"

"Today it feels good to be an African"

"I am an African. I owe my being to the hills and the valleys, the mountains and the glades, the rivers, the deserts, the trees, the flowers, the seas and the ever-changing seasons that define the face of our native land."

2016 marks 20 years since then Deputy President Thabo Mbeki delivered the iconic "I am an African" speech.

The address was delivered on the day that South Africa officially adopted the Constitution.

As we celebrate Heritage month it is only fitting that we look back at this important moment in our history as the speech defined the political mood of that moment in post-Apartheid South Africa.

Beautiful videos have subsequently been made of the iconic speech such as this one below.

The full speech however is 45mins long.
