Good Morning Angels: Tornado-ravaged Laerskool Protearif reopens thanks to Jacaranda FM listeners

In October last year, Laerskool Protearif in Krugersdorp suffered major structural damage due to a tornado. After months of rebuilding, the school reopens today thanks to the help of our Jacaranda FM listeners.

LIVE: GOOD MORNING ANGELS 17 JANUARY 2018 (LAERSKOOL PROTEARIF 18 OCTOBER 2017)

BACKGROUND:

Several members of the community asked Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels to help this school.

The damage, caused by the natural disaster, would cost millions to rebuild and there was no hope that the school would be repaired in time to open for the 2018 school year.

Due to the damage, more than 650 children finished the 2017 school year at other facilities.

The Jacaranda FM listeners opened their hearts and pockets and donated building materials, skills, services, and the monies needed to restore the school to its former glory.

The biggest commitment came from Tigris Construction, who offered to manage and coordinate the mammoth task of the building project.

Project manager, Jaco van Deventer, and his team worked through Christmas and New Year, and building was completed on Monday, 8 January 2018.

Today, the Laerskool Protearif community gets to see their 'new' and much-improved school.

Not only was all the damage repaired, the school now has five new classrooms, a new tuck shop, refurbished bathrooms, and an improved pre-school facility.

Thank you to everyone involved!
