Country music legend Dolly Parton has declined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination because she feels she didn't "earn that right".

Parton, the writer of the hit single 'I Will Always Love You', said on social media that while she is "flattered" by the nomination, she would have to decline.

"I don't feel I have earned the right," Parton said.
"I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out," Parton continued.
