LIST: Luxury cars ministers bought during lockdown in South Africa

While the country's unemployment rate surged and the economy crumbled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, South African ministers and deputy ministers spent roughly R19-million on 24 luxury cars between 2019 and 2021.
Over the past three years, it was reported that ministers and deputy ministers spent roughly R19-million on luxury cars.
Various government departments have provided this information in response to questions from the Democratic Alliance (DA).

Leon Schreiber, a DA Member of Parliament, accused the ministers of buying "flashy new wheels" while "poverty, hunger, and hardship exploded around them".
National Treasury footed the bill for these vehicles.
These are the cars some ministers and deputy ministers bought over the past three years:
Cooperative Governance Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma: Volvo XC60 - R806,700.
Trade and Competition Deputy Minister Fikile Majola: BMW 5 Series - R799,000.
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and his Deputy Phumulo Masualle: Audi A6 - R783,910.
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula: BMW 5 Series - R750,000.
Communications Minister Khumbodzu Ntshavheni: Audi Q5 TDI - R726,000.
Health Minister Joe Phaahla: Audi Q5 - R756,000.
