Local actor receives R5 UIF pay-out

“My application for benefits was approved. I got a once off pay-out of R5.”

Actor, screenwriter, and journalist, Adrian Galley has worked at a theatre in Cape Town and has been making Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) contributions for three years.
Galley recently took to Twitter saying he was paid R5 when he applied for UIF benefits.

The actor spoke to Breakfast with Martin Bester about his recent ordeal.
Galley said: “After going through all the formalities and tracking my application online, it was approved! However, I received R5!”
Martin Bester called in HJW Attorneys lawyer, Rowan Bauer, to give advice to Galley as well as many other freelancers who have not received their UIF payments yet. Listen to the full conversation below.
