Breakfast with Martin Bester caught up with DigsConnect co-founders Alex Procter and Greg Keal to talk about the gap they saw in the accommodation market.

Procter told Martin that it all started when she was at UCT doing her undergraduate studies. "I was elected to the SRC and on my first day I had a queue of students looking for student accommodation seeing as they didn't get into res," she told Martin.

Procter then came up with a better way to connect landlords and students seeking accommodation. "I just thought let me just build a website, put it out there and see what happens. And it just worked."

Since the website's launch in January 2018, DigsConnect lists 70,000 accommodation spots on the IR platform.

According to Keal, the platform has also become the official accommodation partner for Varsity College, Vega, and IMM. "Basically most of the private colleges across South Africa and we are starting to work with the public universities as well."
