Parental advice: How much sleep do children need?
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
The amount of sleep a child needs varies depending on their age and certain factors.

If you are lucky, a newborn sleeps 15-16 hours per day. This is where the trick comes in – they only sleep in short periods of two to four hours.
Young children also get overtired easily. When they do, they find it harder to get to sleep.
If your child is between the ages of one and three, they should sleep for 12 to 14 hours per day.
