South Africans can now move house under Level 4
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
South Africans, who previously could not move house as a result of the lockdown regulations, can now breath a sigh of relief after the government amended the rules on relocation.
However, the new regulations apply only to those who had entered into a new lease agreement before or during the lockdown.
This includes those who had previously bought new homes and the transfer of the property had already gone through.
Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma people have been given until 7 June to move.

“Citizens who were not able to do so due to the lockdown, will be allowed to move houses with goods. This includes new lease agreements which were entered into before or during the lockdown period; or in instances where the property transfer occurred before the lockdown period.”
Those who want to move across provinces will need permission from the police as well as a signed new lease agreement.
The department’s Lungi Mtshali says the control of movement is meant to further minimise the risk of transmission.
