Assisting a family as they grieve the loss of their brave little fighter
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Roman's Pizza and Good Morning Angels assisted Louise and Pieter Cornelius as they grieve the loss of their brave little fighter, Pieter Jr.
Five-year-old Pieter Cornelius from Hartbeespoort just wanted to get better to go home to play with his puppy, Chase, but that was not to be.
Pieter was a little fighter from birth. He was a prem-baby, who spent some time in neonatal ICU, before going home with his adoring parents, Louise and Pieter. His big health battle began in November 2021, when he was diagnosed with Leukaemia. The brave little boy and his parents took this head-on and earlier this year, Pieter was in remission.
In August, the family were looking forward to a well-deserved break, when Pieter experienced flu symptoms.
Initially, his doctor wanted to keep him in hospital for two nights to assist his lungs, however, this became weeks as Pieter’s lung function deteriorated.
His parents drove from Hartebeespoort to Alberton every day to visit their son, while doctors tried to find an answer and treatment.
Even though the family has a medical aid, not all the treatment was covered in full and some not at all.
Friends and family came together to assist this family and reached out to Good Morning Angels.
Sadly, Pieter passed away on the evening of 26 November.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:
Middag GMA,
Help asb ‘n klein vegtertjie, Pieter, net 5 jaar oud.
Groete,
Sr. Nolene van der Walt
