Good Morning Angels: Jobs for unemployed and retrenched women

Good Morning Angels: Jobs for unemployed and retrenched women

How to find a job amidst the scourge of unemployment and retrenchment  … three women get some good news

Good Morning Angels: Jobs for women in need
Jacaranda FM

BACKGROUND: Good Morning Angels receives hundreds of requests from people who are looking for jobs. Many of these requests come from women: moms, single parents, grannies, even school girls who are the heads of parentless households. This Women's Month, we teamed up with Madelein Smit, MD of employment recruitment agency, HR Company Solutions. She organised a workshop this past Women's Day, to help women get ready for the world of work - from drawing up a CV, to dressing up for the interview. The ultimate aim was to assist these women with possible placement and employment, to empower them to be independent. This morning, we meet three of the women who made the most of this opportunity.

REQUEST 1: Marinda Kotze

Ek is 'n alleen-ma nou al vir 9 jaar vandat my man net verdwyn het. Ek het twee seuns, Dylan 21 en Luc 17.

Ek is 3 jaar terug afgelê by 'n gastehuis waar ek 8 jaar gewerk het.

ANGEL 1: Madelein Smit, Managing Director of HR Company Solutions

Madelein was so impressed with Marinda, she has offered her a job at HR Company Solutions!

REQUEST 2: Karina Balt

Karina’s sister, Elvira wrote to GMA and asked us to help Karina find a job. She’s a 44-year old single mother of two teenagers. Karina was retrenched in October last year. She has depleted all her savings and means to care for her children and they have no other family. Despite excellent work experience and qualifications (Karina is efficient at business analysis and many other proficiencies and worked for two major international fuel companies), she has not been able to find anything sustainable. "She is the bravest person I know, who has not sat down in despair, but looks for and applies for hundreds of new jobs every day! I must say I admire her - for her courage and for trying EVERYTHING! She is making clothes and curtains anything to bring in some funds….

ANGEL 2: Ilanda Els from Herbalife Nutrian

Karina was invited back for a second interview today … instead, Ilanda informs Karina that she’s got the job as Cost Systems Specialist!

REQUEST 3: Omolemo Cinecela

Omolemo Cincela is in Grade 12 at Thuto Pele Secondary School in Kagiso. She is writing a mid-year matric exam this morning. Omolemo attended HR Company Solution's workshop to get herself job ready for next year. She wants to study Financial Management and has done some job-shadowing to ensure that this is a career field that is suited to her and her expectations. She has applied at the University of Johannesburg to enrol in 2020. She does not know how she's going to pay for her studies yet, and will probably have to work to save first.

Chris Rothman, Sales Manager, Consolidated Ford. They will give her an internship AND pay for her studies next year!

ANGEL 3: Chris Rothman, Sales Manager at Consolidated Ford

Consolidated Ford offers Omolemo an internship AND to pay for her studies next year!
