Good Morning Angels: Philip Snyman fighting cancer for the second time
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Philip Snyman was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia a year ago.
BACKGROUND: Philip Snyman from Rustenburg is fighting cancer for the second time in a year. This father of an 18-month-old daughter and husband to Megan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia a year ago - when his baby girl was just six-months-old. His family rallied around him as he battled the illness. He needed a stem cell transplant, and by a miracle, his sister was a match. He received the stem cell transplant in May last year and recovered.
Four months after the transplant, Snyman had follow-up tests - and the cancer was back - this time his kidneys were also affected.
He is back on chemotherapy every week - but he needs immunotherapy treatment to save his life. This is not covered by his medical aid. Snyman needs nine injections at a cost of R100,000 each - that’s R900 000.
His wife works to cover their basics and to pay for the medical aid as he cannot work while in treatment.
Again, his family and friends rallied around and they managed to raise R340,000 through all kinds of fundraising events. And still, they need R560,000. He cannot start the treatment before he has all the funds - and time is running out. That’s why they reached out to Good Morning Angels.
REQUEST FOR: Philip Snyman and his wife, Megan.
REQUEST FROM: Various family and friends
ANGELS: The annual Survivors Golf Day by Gerhard van der Westhuizen and Rayno Strauss.
SPONSORING: Gerhard van der Westhuizen and Rayno Strauss are both cancer survivors. They both had the means to fight the disease and pledge to hold a fundraiser every year for cancer patients who need financial assistance. They held their 7th Survivors Golf Day in November 2021 and gave Philip Strauss R250,000 towards his treatment. But, since the golf day, three players stepped up and pledged another R250,000 and enough funds were raised to cover Philips’ outstanding amount of R560,000. He can now start his immunotherapy treatment to save his life.

Sowaar, was dit so.
- Maandelikse uitgawes
- Ander uitgawes (Elektrisiteit, huur, kos, en brandstof)
