Free State farm fire fund:

A year ago, Jacaranda FM listeners donated R5-million to assist farmers in the western Free State after devastating fires. Good Morning Angels partnered with Springbok rugby legend Bakkies Botha to immediately distribute assistance in the form of animal feed, medical supplies, and infrastructure repair to the affected farmers to the value of R4-million. With the remaining funds, a special fire truck has have been built to service farms in the area. A water tanker truck is also being built and together with the fire truck, will ensure that the farmers have a fighting chance when the next fire comes ….

BACKGROUND

In October 2020, farms in the western Free State were ravaged by run-away fires. The country looked on in shock as farming communities battled while witnessing their livestock and land go up in flames. In the end, at least 100-thousand hectares of grazing, crops, and farm infrastructure was destroyed in five fires. Hundreds of heads of cattle, as well as wild life perished.

Good Morning Angels on Breakfast with Martin Bester answered the call for help for these farming communities from Springbok legend and farmer, Bakkies Botha.

In a matter of two weeks, the Jacaranda FM listeners astonished all of us with their overwhelming generosity and support as we raised R5,000,000 to assist those who make sure that the country has food on the table.

Thank you to all the Angels who make Good Morning Angels possible - every Wednesday morning - on Breakfast with Martin Bester.
