R100,000 assistance to a dad with Gillian Barre Syndrome
Updated | By Breakfast with Martin Bester
Dad, husband, and breadwinner, Emil Krügel, needed Angel help as he lies in ICU, unable to move after being diagnosed with Gillian Barre Syndrome.
A 49-year-old Vanderbijlpark dad and husband, Emil Krügel, was a happy, healthy man - until 16 days ago, when he woke up unable to walk.
His wife, Sonia, drove him to the local hospital, not knowing what to expect as he was fine when they went to bed the night before.
Emil was diagnosed with Gillian Barre Syndrome (GBS), a condition probably caused by an infection - that leads to the immune system attacking the body itself.

For the past 16 days, Emil has been in an induced coma in ICU. He is paralysed, but receiving special transfusions and treatment to assist with his possible recovery. He has developed kidney problems and has completed five days of dialysis - with another five to come.
The medical insurance funds have been exhausted and the family has paid what they could to keep his treatment going. Emil’s daughter, Danielle, has set up a fundraising account and she's sold her car to help cover costs. At this point, they are looking at another two weeks in ICU, at around R20,000 per day.
Emil is the breadwinner, who only nine months ago started the job he has prayed for. Sonia works at a beauty salon, but has not been able to go to work since Emile’s illness. Their seven-year old son, Elrich, has not been able to see his dad at all.
Several listeners have reached out to Good Morning Angels to assist this family in their time of need.

ORIGINAL REQUEST:Good day,
We would like to ask Good Morning Angels for help in this very stressed, difficult time.
My cousin's husband woke up 16 days ago paralysed from the neck down, where he wasn't sick at all.
He had a fun day with his children the previous day, Saturday, two sons - one only seven years old.
He went to bed and the next day all was upside down. The medical bills are piling up, the medical aid only paid a very small portion and now we need to try and get more money. The family all helped where they could, but still R700 000 is needed for now.
If we can't raise this money they want to transfer him to a state hospital where we all know he will not be able to receive the treatment he needs.
His daughter, Danielle, started a ‘BACKABUDDY’ fundraising and so far, there is R53,000 available, but we struggle to get the word out there to reach more people as we get blocked on all social media platforms.
We have no idea how long he will be in hospital, and how all will work out in the future….
Emil is a very hard-working dad and husband. They went through very difficult times in their lives and he got the job he prayed for so many years - only 9 months ago - and they were so happy and now this happened.
He needs to support his family and he needs help to get better.
Please, please we NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!…
Please see Emil's situation below:
Help Emil Krügel , diagnosed with severe Guillain Barre Syndrome. There is no medical aid funds available anymore as it has been used up for the expensive treatments trying to save his life. He is a 49-year old husband and father suffering from a severe illness called Gillian Barre Syndrome ( it’s a condition in which the immune system attacks the nerves, this condition has been triggered by acute bacterial or viral infection, treatments can help but this condition can not be cured. Symptoms start as a weakness and tingling in the feet and legs that spread to the upper body and paralysis. Treatments includes transfusions of special blood treatments like plasma exchange and immunoglobulin therapy and this can relieve the symptoms. He is currently in hospital in high intensive care where all the treatments are being done. At this moment he is in a medical coma on the ventilators so they can try to keep his body calm and relaxed , this will help to keep his blood pressure normal while they are giving him plasma injection treatments that cost +-R25,000 a day.I want to also mention that he is the breadwinner, and at this stage there is almost no income, because my cousin is working in a salon, but she spends her days at the hospital.
Thank you very much
